Anonymous said...: David's boat was always lit at night deep back in the shallows of Red Hook Harbor, parked up against the National Park. A friend ran a shore power cable (unprotected Romex) from a house above the Park to David's boat, thru the bush and a drainage pipe. The lights went out when a Park Ranger found the cable with his lawnmower. The burnt out cable was not a pretty sight, and the grass cutting ended for the day.; December 04, 2008

St Thomas - St John, U.S. Virgin Islands ~ Remembering All-Ah-Wee

Recalling the many people in the 70's and 80's, up to the mid - 90's who gave Red Hook and The East End the character it had (including some from downtown and St. John).

Why "mid-90's" ? Hurricane Marilyn in 1995 changed our work and play patterns, our lives and energies. As one person expressed it, Hurricane Hugo in '89 was an adventure; Marilyn was a royal P-I-T-A.

Some long time island residents left after '95, plus rebuilding and development, forever changed the simplicity and laid back character of Red Hook we reveled and thrived in.

Many though are still sailin', lymin', workin', drinkin' and dancing on as we speak . . . in St Thomas-St John-BVI's, down island or wherever they may be.
