I remember a Morgan Whalen from St Thomas. A great singer, is this the same guy?

That's him ! I did a bit of Internet searching, but only came up with this site for Morgan :

You have to scroll down almost 2/3's of the way to "The Morgan Whalen Group/Dalux" where you'll find a pre-St Thomas writeup. Morgan is in both photos there.

I recall Morgan drove around St. Thomas in a van. The locals dubbed it ...

"Van Whalen" !

Morgan is a great musician, he used to pay for his passage on sail boats by being the troubador. I would run into him up in Newport, Rhode Island every summer.

Whoa! This is a flash from the past.
I'm a singer/guitar player and
knew Morgan quite well. I played
his open mike nite at Barnacle Bill's a number of times. We go back even further than that though... Russian River in N. Cal.
'73, Roseburg, Ore. '75. Then in
'84 I was the pub singer at The
Pub on the Square in St. George's, Bermuda and in he walks...maybe one of the trips he made with you! I wonder where I'll run into
him next?
My Island years were the best of
my life...would love to swap some stories.

Morgan left St. Thomas just after I did in 1997 last I heard he was in Florida. Sad news about my old broadcasting mate on Radio One WVWI Nicky (Mighty Whitey) Russell I will miss those jammin sessionsa round the island especially at Barnacle Bille, Hi Bill.

Came across a website for musician Don Panzik. Keywords that rang a bell : Red Hook's "Slip Away' and 'New York, New York', Morgan Whalen, mid-80's.
