Mike Woodward

Installed a fish aquarium to meet "live entertainment" requirements of an early bar on the backside of the original Red Hook Shopping Center.

I think "Slip Away" was the name of the bar, entrance on the backside of the upper part of the original Red Hook Plaza building.

Mike died in a plane crash with Dennis Yarnell, the pilot and one other passenger who's name I cannot remember. They were taking aerial photo's of the charter boats when the plane crashed. That was a very sad time for Red Hook. We buried them at sea off the south drop, Mark and Mary Montoya used their fishing boat for the service.

Mike was a great guy. I saw him and his black lab with the bandana (Magnum, maybe) that morning. I was "lucky" enough to be at in the dentist chair when they went in. Buy the time I was out they had already been recovered.

For months Magnum wandered around the shopping center looking for him.

I worked at the Slip Away in 1984 , when I first arrived in St Thomas during Tropical Storm Klaus. Anyone remember. I was a very green 20 year old and I treasure those days and characters. When it closed down I sailed from St. Martin to attend the party in the parking lot......with black balloons.....Things change but Red Hook was magical back then, I hope the present day Red Hook is providing treasured memories for those who dwell there.
